Warm
Up this January with a Visit to Spain
in Saskatchewan
at “Noche en Sevilla”!
Forget all about the
cold weather outside when you step into “Noche
en Sevilla” – a little part of Spain created
right here in Saskatchewan, complete with authentic Spanish Tapas
and live Flamenco entertainment. Sample the culinary and artistic
delights of Spain
at this exciting dinner show presented by Kari Alba and Alma Flamenca!
Kari Alba, the artistic
director of Alma Flamenca, has been living and
breathing Flamenco for many years. She actively promotes the art of
Flamenco in Saskatoon
through Alma Flamenca, the Flamenco school she
founded in 2000. Every year, Alma Flamenca
hosts a fundraising dinner show, intended to raise the funds required to bring
international guest Flamenco artists to Saskatoon
for top-quality performances and workshops. This year, the fundraising dinner
is entitled “Noche en Sevilla”
– A Night in Seville.
“Noche
en Sevilla” will feature many exciting performances
by the students of Alma Flamenca, ranging from
the fast and frenzied “Bulería” to the deep and
solemn “Soleá”. Alba, recognized as an exceptional
Flamenco performer for her impeccable technique and emotional expression, will
perform a dazzling solo. Ali Golbabai, a talented and
innovative guitarist from Calgary, makes his
first appearance in Saskatchewan
to provide live musical accompaniment for the dancers. Daniel Regnier, a budding local Flamenco guitarist, will accompany
the performances of dancer Alice Kirchgesner.
Violinist Signe Bone will perform a unique Flamenco
duet with Regnier on piano. Keith Meeking,
a long-standing member of the Saskatoon Flamenco community, will provide his
excellent percussion on the cajon.
The Tapas
meal featured at “Noche en Sevilla”
will be catered by local Artisan Baker Tracey Muzzolini
of Christie’s Mayfair Bakery (420
33rd St W) and acclaimed chef Elaina
Asselin of Toronto.
Also, local businesses
Garden Architecture & Design
(315 Avenue A S.) and Flowers by Fred (727-22nd
St. West) will provide beautiful
Spanish décor. Alba’s
husband, Alejandro Alba Molina, a native of Seville,
Spain, will verify the
authenticity of the Spanish cuisine and atmosphere, so you are certain to be
surrounded by the true sights and sounds of Spain!
Seating for this
enjoyable evening is limited, so don’t miss a chance to visit Spain on your
doorstep. Tickets would make a wonderful Christmas gift for friends and family.
The show is Saturday, January 28th, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hall on the corner of 8th Street
and Broadway Avenue.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner begins at 7:00, and the dance show begins at
