Since his first professional appearance in Córdoba, Spain at the age of 12, Paco Peña has graced the world's greatest stages, including London's Royal Albert Hall and New York's Carnegie Hall. An undisputed master of flamenco guitar and winner of five consecutive "Best Flamenco Guitarist" titles from Guitar Magazine, he is not content to simply be a guitar virtuoso. Rather, the Paco Peña Flamenco Dance Company delivers the full experience of Flamenco as it has developed since the 18th century - a vibrant, unforgettable spectacle featuring dancers, singers and accompanying guitarists, all driven by Paco's dazzling fretwork.

Buffy Sainte-Marie
BD&P World Music Series

"Crossing the boundaries of folk and country, protest songs and love ballads with her almost other-wordly voice, Buffy Sainte-Marie has been pop-culture's social conscience and resident romantic for four decades. The Cree singer-songwriter's "Universal Soldier" (later covered by Donavan, Glen Campbell, and Earl Scruggs) became the unofficial anthem of the '60s anti-war movement, and its sentiments resonate still. A passionate educator, she brought Native awareness to the mainstream during five years on TV's Sesame Street, and was the United Nations spokesperson for the International Year of Indigenous People (1993). She has won numerous awards, including a lifetime spot in the Juno Hall of Fame and an Oscar for the classic ballad "Up Where We Belong."

Opening for Buffy Sainte-Marie is local Flamenco dancer Fiona Malena, who has been gaining significant attention as a proactive and outstanding flamenco dancer/choreographer/producer. She'll be joined by guitarist Michael Boyle.

Flamenco Juerga on November 13.
For those that don't know what a Flamenco juerga is about; it is a party where the theme is Flamenco. It is an opportunity to listen to flamenco, do palmas (clapping), dance (for those that want to), play guitar, sing or simply just watch and have fun.
