TOMAS ARROQUERO CARLOS - BIO

Tomas has performed & taught flamenco dance worldwide. He visits Edmonton for a fantastic 8-day workshop from January 30 - February 6, 2007. Tomas studied at the famous 'Amor de Dios' in Madrid under Maria Magdalena, Belen Fernandez & Manuel Reyes. Mentored mainly by Maria Bermudez in Jerez, Spain, Tomas has studied & performed with Jerez as his base. Tomas has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe. His next performances bring him to Los Angeles along side such artists as Domingo Ortega and Angelita Vargas.

Studio Feb 03 to Feb 05 - Strathcona School of Dancing 8111- 43 Street.( off Sherwood Park Freeway)

Classes are conducted in English & Spanish.

A Journey through the Roots of Flamenco

“Raíces” is a musical and dance journey that will explore the roots of Flamenco. Combining critically acclaimed musicians from the Plaid Tongued Devils and Rembetika Hipsters as well as award winning artists in Bellydance and Flamenco, Raíces is an explosion of ancient cultures presented through an entire selection of unique live music, singing and performance. The Concert will portray the enrichment of Flamenco through the interplay of gypsy and Indian influences, while highlighting the elegance of Moorish and Spanish cultures.

Bulerias por Fiesta Workshops and Juerga

The Canada Council awarded Oscar Nieto the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize for his contribution to Dance in Canada in 2005…the first time the prize went to a flamenco artist in the 25 years it had been awarded. “Oscar Nieto still puts the stage on fire when he performs! … As one of very few senior male flamenco dancers in this country, he is leaving an important legacy for flamenco dance across Canada.”
